Our manifesto
You only truly know a place through its people. Packed connects travelers and locals for real experiences, so the people who live in a city are finally heard and get to benefit from the exchange with the visitors who come.
Cultural capital is our currency.
Seeing the world is everyone's right.
No culture is the default. Every place has something to teach.
Locals benefit from those who visit, not just carry the cost.
Live a place, don't just pass through it.
Safety & trust
Designed for the most vulnerable user, a woman on her own = safer for everyone.
You shouldn't have to travel on hope. So we look out for every stay, meetup and agreement, as closely as we can.
The difference
| Topic | The old way | The Packed way |
|---|---|---|
| Stay | Pay a platform to sleep in someone's home | Stay with people who want to host you |
| Rent a flat that used to be a local's home, while short-term rentals push rents up and neighbors out | Swap homes or pet-sit in homes people actually live in. No one loses theirs so you can visit | |
| Pay a premium to swap homes or house-sit, mostly in Europe | Pet sitting and home swaps worldwide, part of your membership at no extra cost | |
| Work for free to get a bed, with no rights, no protection, and taking a job from a local | Never trade your labor for a bed, and never take a local's job | |
| People | Meet locals only when they're serving you: guides, waiters, cleaners | Meet locals as equals, and leave with friends in every city |
| Tours | The same script everyone books: built for photos, blind to history, politics and class | Curated tours by responsible local agencies: culture as it is, never staged for tourists |
| Traveling solo | Hope to find good company at the hostel, and end up sightseeing with other tourists | Make local friends before you land, so you arrive with company |
| Activities | Classes made for tourists, in a bubble far from anyone who lives there | Activities for locals and travelers together. Cook, play music or make pottery side by side. The real lesson is the cultural exchange |
| Food | Eat where the algorithm sends everyone | Eat where the neighborhood eats |
For locals
Packed isn't only for people who travel. Without locals, there's no Packed, just tourists in a tourist bubble. For the people who live in a place, it opens a door to the rest of the world.
Talk with native speakers of the languages you want to learn.
Learn about other cultures without being limited by your passport or your budget.
Tell visitors what life here is really like, and how tourism feels to you.
Share what you love about where you're from, the way you believe it should be shared.
Replace what the international media says with what people here actually live.
Host or show someone around on a platform that stands firmly against sex tourism and xenophobia.
Take back the narrative of your own culture.

We're starting in Brazil and the United States, and Packed is built to work anywhere in the world.
No one can promise the world is always safe. But drawing on our own travels and the friends we've made around the world, we built more than 10 safety systems, and our Terms let us act faster in an emergency. If something feels wrong, you can always reach us, and you'll be heard.
You can host from day one. Selling experiences, guides and trips will come later: the marketplace isn't part of our first version.
